Beatrix Vanlerberghe studied at the Universities of Leuven (Lic. Juris –  KU Leuven 1990) and Essex (LL.M. in International Human Rights Law – 1991). In 1993 she obtained the ‘Diplôme de Droit International et de Droit Comparé des Droits de l’Homme’ at the ‘Institut des droits de l’homme’ at Strasbourg.

She was first admitted to the Brussels bar (1991) and was thereafter appointed to the Supreme Court bar of Belgium (2012).

After having worked for two years at the law firm Loeff, Claeys, Verbeke (Labour Law department), Beatrix joined the law firm De Bandt, Van Hecke & Lagae (Linklaters) in 1993 (Litigation department), where she specialized as ‘Counsel’ in Supreme Court work.

From 1992 until 1999 Beatrix was also assistant at the University of Leuven specializing in civil procedural law and human rights law.  In 1999 she obtained her doctoral degree (PhD) at the University of Leuven with a thesis on the right to a fair and public trial.

Since 2006 Beatrix is professor at the University of Antwerp teaching the Advanced Course on Civil Procedural Law, Evidence Law and Moot Court.

Beatrix left Linklaters to start up the law firm Verbist & Vanlerberghe Omega Law as from September 2013.

Beatrix is focusing her bar activity on Supreme Court work.

She is the author, co-author or co-editor of numerous books and articles in legal periodicals on various topics. For an overview of these publications, click here.
